Spiritual healing has as many variations as it has
practitioners. The biggest difference between a "psychic healer" and a
"spiritual healer" is that a psychic healer attempts to use their
natural skills and talents in a disciplined and practiced manner to
effect increased healing in a person. A spiritual healer uses their
natural talents (or more commonly, those of others), with little
thought given to skill or technique, as a channel for God or some
other, higher power. This has also been known as "faith healing" by
debunkers and skeptics in an attempt to disparage the idea.
On first reading it may look to some as if I am saying that spiritual
healing is ineffective or somehow bad, this is not the case though.
Spiritual healing, faith healing if you will, is often effective,
especially if certain conditions are met.
What is most interesting is that the same techniques used in most
spiritual healings can be stripped of all religious connotation and
still be effective. In fact, when you look at what happens during
popular "spoon bending? parties, it becomes clear that the same steps
are used.
I will state here that the mechanism for all spiritual healing, at
least as we know it in modern times, is a normal human ability. It is
not a "power from on high" or the divine intervention of god. For it to
work, it takes real people, working together as a unit.
Is the original ability to do this from a higher power? Possibly. Just
as it is possible that all skills and abilities are.
Here are the steps needed for a successful spiritual
healing.
Numbers: A group of people must be
assembled, in one place, at the same
time. This is key to spiritual healing. Psychic healing can work well
as a solo operation, because different techniques are used to generate
field strength, the mechanism in spiritual healing though, is to use
the combined psychic power of a large group, often without their
knowledge, to generate the field strength needed.
Entrainment: Some form of group activity is
needed at this point,
before any attempt to heal is made. It can be prayer, listening to a
sermon, singing, dancing or chanting. Anything that will get people
working together on a deep subconscious level.
Expectation: The subconscious minds of the
audience needs to be trained
to generate the correct field for healing. Often people are simply told
to expect the healing to take place through a supernatural agency. On
some occasions the first few individuals to be healed are planted. They
are people that either fake and illness or have disabilities that are
real, but are known to be easily treated, with dramatic results.
Such things, even when fake, can cause the subconscious processes of
the group to unify to form a psychic field of great strength and
organization.
Focus: The focus of a spiritual healing is
almost always a person. This
person will tell tales of their previous healings and most often give
the credit for them to an outside agency. The feeling is that god or
the higher power works through them. They make an effort to further
this idea. While there is an outside agency at work, it is almost
always the audience and their normal psychic abilities used in concert.
At times the focus is a religious icon or totem of some kind. The
effect is still the same, although it can take longer to be effective,
as an icon does not actively rouse emotion and needs others to speak
for it.
Reinforcement: As the healings take place, it
is common to make as big
a deal out of each success as possible. It does not matter if the
effects are large or small. What is important is that the audience
"knows" that the process is working.
If you can bring together all of these factors, you will generate
fairly high quality spiritual healing.
You may notice thatbelief is not listed in these steps. This is
because, at least on a conscious manner, personal belief is not a key
issue. It is important that the subconscious mind accepts that the
process is happening, which is why entrainment and reinforcement become
important factors. Faith and belief are not needed for these steps to
work. An extreme level of active disbelief could throw off the effects
though.
The subconscious mind will often take cues from the conscious mind.
With enough effort it is possible to prevent entrainment. By refusing
active participation in the events one could disrupt their
participation in the generation of the field as well.
This is why one could not effectively perform an effective spiritual
healing at a skeptics meeting. They, as a group, will organize to
prevent their own psychic fields from adding to the power of the group
field.
These same, basic, techniques will work for many types of psychic
effect. Healing is simply one of the most easily understood by the deep
mental processes, so it gets very good results. It is a bit harder to
explain something unusual, such as bending a spoon, to your
subconscious, causing somewhat less impressive effects in the short run.
In general you will get better effects with larger groups of people and
long periods of time. The longer you can keep the groups attention on a
single factor, the more unique and powerful the effects will become.
